The living building challenge is a philosophy, certification and advocacy tool for development projects to move beyond merely being less bad for the environment to having a truly positive regenerative impact on the planet. 

The challenge was originally developed in 2006 by the International Living Future Institute in an attempt to dramatically raise the bar from a paradigm of simply doing less harm, to one in which we view our role as a steward and co-creator of a true Living Future.
